Edward Kienholz travaille seul dans un premier temps, avant de rencontrer Nancy Reddin qui deviendra sa femme en 1972. C’est en 1981 seulement qu’Edward Kienholz annonça publiquement que sa femme était coauteur des œuvres réalisées depuis 1972, l’année de leur première rencontre. Au cœur de leur travail à deux, la religion, la guerre, la mort, le sexe, les aspects sombres et conflictuels de la société. Ils se font connaître notamment par leurs combats contre l’exploitation de la femme, la prostitution, le rôle des médias et les luttes ethniques des minorités américaines.

Edward Kienholz (1927-1994) worked alone for an initial period before meeting Nancy Reddin, who became his wife in 1972. It was only in 1981 that Kienholz publicly announced that his wife had collaborated with him on the works he created from 1972, the year when they first met. Religion, war, death, sex and the dark and conflicting aspects of society are the central themes of their joint work. They made a name for themselves in particular by combating the exploitation of women and highlighting the issues of prostitution, the role of the media and the ethnic struggles of minorities in America.
