Le mariage permet de légitimer une épouse et, par la suite, d’éventuels enfants qui prendront le nom du père et pourront hériter de sa fortune. Ce monument funéraire montre trois personnages, un homme et sa femme accompagnés de leur fils. Le couple est représenté dans une variante de la dextrarum junctio, à laquelle sont adjoints une jatte et un objet rond compris comme un pain. Le troisième personnage tient dans ses mains des objets qui répondent à ceux de ses parents et constituent le seul lien avec eux.

Marriage gives legitimacy to a wife and, subsequently, any children who take the father’s name and may inherit his wealth. This funerary monument depicts three people, a man and his wife together with their son. The couple is shown in a variation of dextrarum junctio to which a bowl and a round object understood to be a loaf of bread are adjoined. The third person is holding objects which match those held by his parents and form the only link with them.
